Silas had to find a way to make Stefan leave town.  He did this by making Delena happen, so he, Silas, could take Stefan’s place. 

This is why JP says the triangle lives on.  It wasn’t ever resolved.  Not by the real people.  It’s Silas, that rat bastard!!!
